2015 Cadillac CTS Sedan, Building On Success

The Cadillac CTS first came to life in 2002 as part of an effort to rejuvenate a stale brand.

The first version tried in vain to tackle the German three, and remained unable to shake the stench of the Poly-dent crowd.

Happily each successive remodel saw increased interest  in the mid-size CTS. Today we will look at the latest.

EXTERIOR

At first look the CTS is striking. The term ‘linear’, feels the most accurate way to describe it.

There is an uninterrupted line that runs from the headlights to the tail lights, which gives the car a long and lean presence.

The linear leanness is accentuated by the vertical LED lights that run up from the front outer air intakes, and along the headlights.

The newly designed grille and Crest make for an appealing face to be greeted by each morning.

The standard CTS rides on 17″ wheels, with 18″ and 19″ optional.

The trapezoidal exhaust ports, which exit through the rear fascia, lend a clean and modern look that hints at this car’s sporting intentions.

INTERIOR

The inside of the 2015 CTS is focused on the driver. The one piece dash wraps around the driver and pours down from the windshield between the front occupants into a broad center console/armrest.

The center stack and console are home to the Cadillac CUE connectivity and controls system. This system uses a high-resolution 8″ touch screen.

Immediately in front of the driver is a 5.7″ information display  and analog gauges are standard fare, with upper models receiving a 12.3″ display that is configurable in one of four pre-set layouts.

There is no less than 8 interior trim packages available.  These feature authentic wood, carbon fiber or aluminum, and even 6 two tone colour schemes.

The standard seats are 14-way adjustable and are heated and ventilated in front. Leather seating and rear heated seats are available.

DRIVETRAIN

There are two available engines-three if we include the CTS-V but that requires its own article.

The base offering is a 2L 4 cylinder that uses turbo charging to produce a healthy 272 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.

The larger option is the 3.6L  V6 is rated at 321 hp  and 275 lb-ft of torque. Both incorporate direct injection and dual overhead camshafts with continuously variable valve timing.

Both are connected to a 6-speed paddle shifted automatic transmission, and can be had in RWD or AWD formats.

EPA fuel economy estimates for a rear wheel drive 2.0L  stand at 11.8 & 7.8 L/100km or 20 & 30 mpg(city/highway).

The 3.6L RWD sits at 13 & 8.1 L/100km or 18 & 29mpg (city/highway).

Pricing starts at $51,100.00 CA- $45,345.00 US
