2015 Honda Civic – Beautifully Simple

The 2015 Honda Civic remains the class of the compact sedan market, boasting strong reliability, safety, comfort and resale value.

To compete with the many competitors in this segment, the 2015 Civic adds a new trim level, the Special Edition, which comes with features like Honda’s LaneWatch, automatic climate control, and an updated Display Audio system.

The tough competition comes from the Ford Focus, Chevrolet Cruze, Hyundai Elantra and its life long rival, the Toyota Corolla.

The 2015 Civic has a model to please most customers. Available in a practical sedan, a sporty coupe, and efficient hybrid and an alternative compressed natural gas model. The only version not available is a hatchback.

Surprisingly, each Civic model is able to offer a ride tailored for every driver. Its solid architecture provides predictable road manners and its sharp steering and firm brakes allow for a spirited drive if wanted.

The main engine in the Civic is beautiful in its simplicity. The 1.8-litre four-cylinder doesn’t feature turbochargers or any other high-tech wizardry, but it’s reliable, fuel efficient, and its 143 hp is adequate. It will be mated to either a five-speed manual or a CVT automatic.

If you want better fuel economy, the Civic hybrid pairs an electric motor with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder for a little electrical assist. The CVT is the only available transmission.

Those looking for more performance can opt for the Civic Si with its 2.4-litre producing 205 hp and 174 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is also added.

The Civic GX uses a 1.8-litre inline-four and runs a compressed natural gas. However, it is only available in select markets.

When this generation was introduced, some criticized the styling as bland and uninspired. However, after many small updates, the appearance is more appealing. Sedans have more chrome accents, whereas coupe models are sportier with fog lights and a sleeker profile.

Inside, the Civic uses Honda’s split-level dash. The upper info screen is positioned high for quick visibility and the lower touchscreen controls most features and is located lower for easy reach. Separate switches are for the climate control and a large knob controls the audio system.

Let us know in the comments what you think about the 2015 Honda Civic. Will it see off its many competitors?
