The all-new 2015 Subaru Outback is a crossover SUV designed to get you off the beaten path.
Compared to its rivals, you are more likely to see a Subaru Outback covered in mud than you would a Toyota Venza, Volvo V60 or Audi A4 allroad.
For 2015, Subaru enhanced its signature symmetrical full-time AWD system with X-Mode for improved off-road balance. The only difference drivers will see is a new button, but once pressed they will certainly feel a big difference.
X-Mode controls the engine, AWD system and brakes to confidently handle the worst conditions Mother Nature has to offer. It’s standard on all CVT models and includes Hill Descent Control and a Hill Holder system.
While the 2015 Outback is more capable off-road, it is also safer on it thanks to the available EyeSight Advanced Driver Assist system. EyeSight utilizes two cameras to monitor the road ahead and help identify potential dangers. The EyeSight system integrates four different advanced active-safety features: Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking, Pre-Collision Throttle Management and Vehicle Lane Departure and Sway Warning.
Subaru has updated the appearance of the 2015 Outback to make it more muscular yet streamlined. The rugged lower cladding and traditional round fog lights blend well with Subaru’s new hexagonal grille with standard Active Grille Shutters.
The clever standard roof rack system with swing-in-place crossbars is a welcome feature. Stowing when not needed yet always being readily available makes you wonder why nobody had thought of this before.
Sharing its interior with the Subaru Legacy means the Outback’s cabin is clean and functional. Comfortable and convenient, the Outback comes standard with a 6.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, backup camera, heated front seats and more passenger space than the previous model.
The 2015 Outback comes standard with a 2.5-litre flat-4 producing 175 hp and 174 lb-ft of torque. The optional engine is a 3.6-litre flat-6 cylinder putting out 256 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque.
The base model Outback is equipped with a six-speed manual transmission. All others come with a Lineartronic CVT with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
