2015 Volvo XC90 – Power and a Clear Conscience

A few weeks ago, Volvo gave us a glimpse of the interior of their upcoming 2015 XC90. Now, they’ve released the details regarding the powertrains.

The all-new XC90 will be available with a range of engines, all of which displace just two liters. However, the highlight is Volvo’s groundbreaking T8 Twin Engine.

The top of the range XC90 will run on a turbocharged and supercharged four-cylinder along with an 80 hp electric motor. These will combine to produce a total of 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque.

That’s impressive, but what makes it truly special is that it will be a plug-in hybrid with a full electric mode capable of traveling about 24 miles on electricity alone.

This will allow you to drive in the city on electric power, dramatically increasing efficiency and lowering C02 emissions, and then once you hit the open road, the XC90 will have sports car-like performance.

Those looking for something more traditional, the XC90 will also be offered with two gas and two diesel engines.

Gasoline-powered SUV’s will have either a supercharged and turbocharged four-cylinder rated at 320 hp or a smaller 254 hp turbo four.

Diesel choices are between a 225 hp twin-turbo unit and a 190 hp single turbo oil burner.

As illustrated by its sophisticated interior, Volvo seeks to make the XC90 a true game-changer. Let us know what you think about the all-new XC90 in the comments.
