2016 Equinox, Chevrolet’s Second Best Seller Gets A Refresh

The Chevrolet Equinox is the second most popular vehicle in the brands lineup. Debuting in 2004, the model was refreshed in 2010. This obviously gained the favour of consumers; as of 2014 there were over 1 million Equinox SUV’s on North American roads.

The model has once again received a refresh for the 2016 model year.

The SUV, with seating for five, has a good blend of function and value. Cargo space is an impressive 889 litres (31.4 cubic feet) behind the rear seat and can grow to 1,803 litres (63.7 cubic feet) when the rear seat is folded.

The rear seats have been put on tracks and will slide forward to add 8 inches of cargo space without the need to fold them.

Inside the refresh has resulted in new center stack and shifter. The tech level has also been upped with the availability of 4G LTE wireless hotspot. This feature comes with a 3 month/3 gigabyte trial.

Standard new equipment includes: a 7 inch touch-screen with Bluetooth connectivity, a back-up camera and new fabrics.

On the higher level LT and LTZ models standard equipment includes: Chevy Mylink, cross traffic and blind spot alerts.

Outside the new front is much more appealing, and will not doubt bring even more attention to the already popular model. The standard front lighting is projector beam with new daytime running lights and LED accent lighting on the LT and LTZ trim level. Fog lights are exclusive to the top of the line LTZ.

The powertrains have been carried over from the previous model.

The base engine is a 2.4L Ecotec that features direct injection and produces 182 hp. The optional V6 makes a useful 301 hp and 272 lb-ft of torque and allows the Equinox to tow up to 3500 lbs.

As for fuel consumption, the estimated figures stand at 22/32 mpg(10.7/7.4 L/100 km) City/highway for the FWD 2.4L, and 16/23 mpg(14.7/10.2 L/100 km) for the 3.6L with AWD.
