2016 Honda Pilot – For The Modern Family

The all-new 2016 Honda Pilot made its world debut at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show.

The 2016 Pilot was reengineered and redesigned in America. The main focus was to deliver more family-friendly utility, more technology and more premium amenities.

“With looks that command attention and the powerful presence of a true functionality, the 2016 Pilot sets a new benchmark in the midsize SUV class with an unmatched combination of sophistication and utility,” said Jeff Conrad, Honda Division senior vice president and general manager. “This means the all-new Pilot will comfort, entertain and assist active families in all aspects of their lives, whether it’s an evening out for two, a road trip adventure for all, or just the chores of everyday life.”

It certainly looks modern, with a sleek and muscular form. The outgoing model was boxy and unassuming, but the 2016 Pilot draws much more attention.

The smoother Pilot also comes with modern technology such as optional brighter and more efficient LED projector headlights with auto high beams. Available 20-inch wheels and a first-ever panoramic roof complete the exterior.

The premium feel carries into the cabin with soft-touch materials throughout. Additional high-end features include available heated steering wheel, and heated second-row seats.

Eight-passenger seating is the standard arrangement with a three-person 60/40 split second row. However, for the first time, upper-trim Pilot models have the option of two second-row captain’s chairs, which offer an easy pass-through to the third row.

To better fulfill the demands of the modern family, the 2016 Pilot comes with up to five USB ports to charge smartphones and the like, an HDMI port for a gaming console, two headphone jacks, and two 12-volt power outlets and a 115-volt outlet to power just about anything.

If that wasn’t enough, a nine-inch rear entertainment system with DVD and new Blu-Ray disc capability is available.

The eight-inch capacitive touchscreen display runs on a new Android-based operating system and a more powerful processor. The Pilot’s infotainment system enables easy smartphone connectivity to access all the features and options of the HondaLink connected-car system.

An all-new Honda Satellite-Link Navigation System features improved graphics and new capabilities including 3D renderings of terrain, buildings and road signs, improved lane guidance, live search function, 911 emergency services and more.

The new 3.5-litre, direct-injected V6 with cylinder deactivation technology is more refined, powerful and fuel-efficient than the outgoing motor. The new Pilot will also include available Idle Stop technology that shuts the engine off when the vehicle is stopped.

Two new advanced transmissions can be mated to the new engine. Standard offering is a six-speed automatic, while upper trims will get a Honda-first nine-speed auto. Both are smooth and responsive and are geared to save fuel.

The new Pilot will be available in front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. The new AWD system is more efficient while still providing all-weather confidence.

Following through with its commitment to safety, the Honda Sensing suite of technologies is available on the Pilot. This package includes Lane Watch Display, Blind Spot Indicators, and a Multi-angle Rear View Camera as standard and available Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, Land Keeping Assist System, Rear Cross Traffic Monitor, Adaptive Cruise Control and a Road Departure Mitigation system.

The 2016 Pilot will arrive at dealerships later this summer.

What do you think about the 2016 Honda Pilot? Will it be the perfect SUV for your family?
