24: Live Another Day Finale Recap

You won’t like the Hulk when he’s angry, but you’ll love Jack Bauer.  Audiences still find themselves rooting for the revenge-seeking hero every second of the hour.

Tonight’s season finale of 24: Live Another Day had everything from blood, sweat, and tears to revenge rampages and the infamous silent clock.

If one thing motivates Jack Bauer’s rage, it’s grief, and the man has had his fair share of it.

Two divergent deaths were the main events of tonight’s show; one shot by a Chinese sniper, the other losing his head at the hands of none other than Jack Bauer himself; the deceased are Audrey Raines and Cheng Zhi.

Tonight, the show did something that they have never done in the history of its running: they skipped time.  Within the last 15 minutes of the show, a caption came on the screen reading “12 Hours Later”, showing the aftermath of the day’s events.  Grief, guilt, regret, and even relief were conveyed within this season’s supporting characters.

Sacrifice seems to be the name of the game.  Jack traded himself for the safety of his best friend, Chloe O’Brian, asking that she check in on his family when she can.  That’s all he asked.  He then voluntarily boarded a helicopter to Moscow, accepting his assumed fate as a Russian prisoner.

No decision has been made as to a return for the show’s tenth season as of yet.
