Supernatural: Fan Fiction

I didn’t think that it was possible for Supernatural to have an episode with more nods to the fans than “The French Mistake”, but they have done it again with their 200th episode, “Fan Fiction”.

“Fan Fiction” had audiences in stitches with their constant references to previous episodes, fan ideas, fan ships, cast and crew jokes, Adam being left in the cage, and more.  They even made a reference to S.E. Hinton, a known fan of the show, with a mention of The Outsiders.

This episode was another meta episode, which Supernatural has a history of doing well with.  While the musical aspect could have gone terribly wrong, it was simply an underlying element to the episode.  Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) didn’t jump up on stage, singing and dancing.  They simply worked a case in which a musical about their lives was being put on.  It was a much better approach than throwing them into a musical, in my humble opinion.

Some were upset that Castiel (Misha Collins) and Crowley (Mark A. Sheppard) were not featured in the 200th episode.  Here’s how I see it: this is Jared and Jensen’s 200th episode.  It’s their show and this is their tribute and homage.  While Castiel and Crowley will always be loved and adored, this is a tribute to Jared and Jensen, and I am glad the writers treated it as such.

And then comes the shocker: Chuck is alive.  Fans had #Supernatural200thEpisode trending #1 worldwide on Twitter last night, as well as “Chuck Is God“.  After 5 years of waiting, Supernatural’s writers finally brought us back Chuck Shurley (Rob Benedict), after he disappeared mysteriously at the end of “Swan Song”.  Here’s hoping that they will keep him around in future episodes of the season.

Did you like the episode, and are you excited that Chuck is still alive?  Let us know!

Supernatural airs Tuesdays at 9.8c on the CW.
