$50 Rebates On HP TouchPad!

HP is handing out instant rebates on their TouchPad models that are only about one month old.  The 9.7-inch screen and Wi-Fi enabled TouchPads come in two models – the 16GB model for $449 and the 32GB model for $549.

The TouchPad tablet was first released in the United States on July 1st and is now available in several other countries including the United Kingdom, Ireland France, Germany and Canada.  It will be available later this year in Italy, Spain, Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Singapore.

The new HP TouchPad differentiates itself from the competition by including the webOS, a different operating system option than iOS from Apple and Android from Google.  However, according to most reports, none of the tablets including the TouchPad can compete with the iPad on features and are forced to compete on price.  This is driving down the price of the TouchPad as well as all the other competitors.  Online retailors Amazon and Office Depot have followed the rebate by offering price drops on the HP TouchPad in their online stores.

The 10-inch Android tablets may be the biggest competitor to the TouchPad – those prices are projected to drop under $300 by the holiday shopping season.  Meanwhile, the price of another competing tablet computer, the Acer Iconia Tab A500 fell to under $400 at Amazon and Staples.
