75,000 bags of dog treats are being recalled by one of the top pet product companies, over concerns of salmonella, according to the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
When the FDA performed random testing on Hartz Naturals Real Beef Treats for Dogs, the results indicated that there were salmonella organisms present in at least one 8 ounce bag. In a pre-emptive move, Hartz Mountain Corp. issued a voluntary recall of the treats.
There have been no reports of any person or animal acquiring any illness from the treats or contact with the treats, but the company is investigating the source of the organisms.
The treats that may be affected have the lot code BZ0969101E stamped on the package.
Anyone in possession of these treats is being urged to throw them away immediately. If a dog is showing symptoms such as fever, pain, nausea and diarrhea, it is best to seek veterinary assistance right away.
