$99 HP TouchPad News – HP Restocking? Will Email You When Ready!

HP updated its website today to say that they are – temporarily – out of stock of the HP TouchPad.

On the webpage for both the 16 GB and the 32 GB versions of the HP TouchPad, HP says “Due to the significant price reduction, we experienced overwhelming demand for the product and are temporarily out of inventory.”

The word “temporarily” is key here. That would tend to indicate they are expecting to have more HP TouchPads in stock at a later date.

hp-touchpadFurther indication of that is that they are accepting requests for alerts when the tablets are back in stock. The page requests that users interested in being notified when the HP touchpads are back in stock provide their name, e-mail address, phone number, and an indication of whether it’s a purchase for individual use or business use.

Over the past several days, HP’s site has simply said that the HP TouchPads were out of stock, except for a brief time when a similar availability alert sign-up was seen by one of our reporters a few days ago.

HP has also posted a note on its website assuring small and medium business customers that their orders for HP TouchPads have been captured, and that customers should receive a confirmation of the order within the next 48 hours. HP also said that some customers that placed orders on August 20th and 21st experienced a pricing error during the ordering process, and gave their assurances that every order would be honored at the discounted price.

The HP TouchPad tablets first hit the market approximately 6 weeks ago. The price was quickly reduced due to the lack of sales. Then coupons were offered. After sales remained sluggish, HP drastically reduced the prices to just $99 for the 16 GB version, and $149 for the 32 GB version. The price drop brought sales to a sudden fever pitch. Large retailing websites sold out within hours, as did HP’s website. Brick-and-mortar stores sold out quickly over the weekend, once they too offered the TouchPads at the sale price. Bargain hunters who missed out, or decided they wanted additional TouchPads, have remained on the hunt for HP TouchPads at the firesale pricing ever since. HP’s website is at hp.com.
