Charlie Hunnam Quits ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’- Was the Lead Role Too much To Handle?

It was only month ago when British author, E.L James, tweeted that the gorgeous and talented Charlie Hunnam will be Christian Grey in the film adaptation of  the erotic novel, Fifty Shades of Grey.

On Saturday, Universal Pictures announced that Charlie Hunnam has dropped out of the lead role of Christian Grey.

“The filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey,” Universal Pictures said in a statement.

Shortly after Universal broke the news, E.L James tweeted ” I wish Charlie all the best x”

The filmmakers must be scrambling right now to find a replacement because “Fifty Shades of Grey” is scheduled to hit theaters on August 1, 2014.

This news must come as a relief to outraged super fans who signed a petition  to oust Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson from the lead roles of Christian Grey and Ana’ Steel.

According to the Hollywood Reporter Charlie Hunnam got cold feet about playing the role and dropped out.

The only major thing he had going on other than playing  “Christian Grey” was Sons of Anarchy.

Do you think the backlash from super fans played a part in Charlie’s decision to quit?

Now that Charlie is out, do you think his co-star Dakota Johnson will end up leaving too?
