ABC has announced that The Muppet Show is returning to television as a more modern and adult take on the program.
The show is said to explore the personal lives of The Muppets.
The show comes from Bill Prady (co-creator of The Big Bang Theory) and Bob Kushell (writer on Malcolm in the Middle, The Simpsons and more).
Despite claiming it to be a more “adult” Muppets, the studio assures that the show is meant for “kids of all ages.”
ABC greenlit the show for entry into its 2015-2016 television season. The series was announced alongside nearly 25 other television pilots.
The Muppets returned to the public’s eye with their 2011 feature film. The movie was a commercial success and received critical acclaim. It went on to have a sequel called Muppets Most Wanted that also received positive reviews.
Interestingly enough, this will be Bill Prady’s second Muppets show, but the first one to be picked up by a network. Prady originally pitched test footage for a revival to Disney, but they passed on it. He then went on to create The Big Bang Theory.
