2014 was the best year in terms of sales numbers for the Acura RDX CUV. It posted sales numbers well above it European rivals.
For the 2016 model Acura has increased the appeal of the RDX by adding improved performance and luxury.
The performance improvements come courtesy of the 3.5L V6 that makes use of variable cylinder management (VCM) and cylinder deactivation. A look at the numbers reveals that the modest increase in hp, now up 6 to 279 hp and the 1 lb-ft increase to 252 lb-ft of torque, may not seem relevant.
The improvements are noticed in the function of the engine. The VCM is programmed to provide a broader torque curve; the result of which is more responsive acceleration where it is needed.
The VCM also enables the deactivation of three cylinders when the engine is under light loads, such as cruising down the highway. This technology has increased the estimated fuel consumption to 19/28 mpg, 12.4/8.4 L/100 km city/highway for AWD models.
On the road, the 2016 RDX will feel more stable and will have better all-weather capabilities. By using active engine mounts, updated steering control, and stiffer suspension mounts, the ride has be refined to more rewarding levels.
The available AWD system has been programmed to deliver a rear torque bias, during appropriate circumstances.
On the outside the new model receives the signature Acura Jewel Eye LED headlights and LED taillights. A new front and rear fascia, a three dimensional front grille, and new wheel design.
On the inside the RDX has a fresh look with contrasting black and silver trim and changes to both standard and optional equipment.
Optional on all models and standard in the Advance model is the AcuraWatch technology package of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies. This includes: Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking System and Lane Keeping Assist, a standard Multi-View Rear Camera and Expanded View driver’s side mirror.
Occupants can rest assured in the knowledge that the 2016 RDX has received 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and a TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
