Amazon Mega Sale: Bigger Than Black Friday

Amazon.com, the online retail giant, announced on Monday that they would be celebrating their 20th birthday with a sale that they say will have “more deals than Black Friday.”

Amazon is calling the international event ‘Prime Day’ and is making it available to customers in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Japan and several other countries. Vice President of Amazon Prime Greg Greeley said in a statement that Prime Day could be “one of the biggest deals extravaganzas in the world,” according to CNBC.com.

So is there a catch to this mega sale birthday blowout? There is always a catch: As the name of the event implies, the deals that will be offered on Prime Day will be available to Amazon Prime members only. Amazon Prime is a $99 a year premium membership program that provides exclusive perks from across the site, including free 2-day shipping. As a result of the restriction to the benefits of Prime Day, Amazon is expecting to see a sharp rise in Amazon Prime memberships over the next week, as is typically the case during the holiday shopping season every December. In any case, it’s going to be a very big day for online shoppers.

So mark your calendars, because Prime Day is July 15th and Amazon says there will be new deals announced every hour on that day.

How worth it are online shopping deals to you? Will you pay the annual Prime fee for exclusive access? You can leave your thoughts in the box below.
