American Ninja Warrior 6/23 Recap: Another Woman Completes the Course!

Tonight on American Ninja Warrior we traveled to Denver, Colorado for the fifth and final city qualifying round. Competitors were subjected to difficult conditions, with an elevation of 5,000 feet, and temperatures dipping into the 30’s.

There were six obstacles tonight: the Quintuple Steps, Cat Grab (new), Spinning Log, Spikes into Cargo Net (new), and of course, the fourteen foot Warped Wall.

As always there were a plethora of inspirational stories courtesy of tonight’s competitors:

Janet Shaver is a therapist who works with delinquent teens and their parents. Unfortunately she went out on the new Cat Grab.

Josiah Roise is a contractor who was involved in an industrial accident where a house collapsed on top of him. This near death experience inspired him to live each day to it’s fullest. He looked to have a promising run until he fell off the spinning log.

Henry Farrarin is a basketball coach for special needs kids. He couldn’t get a good momentum on the Spikes into Cargo obstacle and ended up in the water.

Carl Fantauzzo Jr. owns three liquor stores and has found clever ways to train while at work. He had a fantastic run, but at only 5’2” and 128 pounds, he failed to make it up the Warped Wall in three attempts.

Bull Bullard travels around the world performing as a Harlem Globetrotter. He was confident that conditioning wouldn’t be an issue, however his grip gave out on the Devil Steps.

Joel Brady is a college professor at the University of Pittsburgh where he teaches a course about the history of vampires. He made it all the way to the Warped Wall, but failed to pull himself up on the third attempt.

Cordelia Bickford discovered Parkour while recovering from Bulimia. She had an inspiring run, but fell off the Spinning Log.

Karson Voiles is an investment company CEO who built a course in his backyard. It paid off when he became the first competitor of the night to complete the course.

Morgan Wade is a professional BMX rider who has injured himself more times than he can count. He looked confident on the course until he was unable to reach the sixth step on the Devil Steps.

Laura Kisana is a jewelry maker and girlfriend to fellow competitor Isaac Caldiero. She grabbed the cargo net but was unable to hold on, and she ended up in the water.

Michelle Waterson is a professional MMA fighter and trains hard daily. It was because of her extensive training that everyone was shocked when she fell on just the second quintuple step.

Lance Pekus, also known as the “Cowboy Ninja”, has been a crown favorite since his impressive performance last season. This season was no different when he made it up the warped wall in an impressive 1:20.

Anthony Scott is a New Mexico corrections officer who trains hard while at work. He looked to be another finisher, until he foot touched the water coming off the Devil Steps, disqualifying him.

Lorin Ball is a gym owner and break dancer who always likes to put on a show. He did just that when he make through the course at lightening speed, and achieved the fastest time of the night with 1:04.

John Stewart is a construction worker who built a course in his backyard. At 52 years old, he was hoping to be the oldest person to make it to the top of the warped wall. He had his chance, but failed to make it up in three attempts.

Dr. Noah Kaufman is a fan favorite from last season. The emergency room physician was sporting a gold outfit which left very little to the imagination, however it got him to the top of the warped wall with ease.

Meagan Martin is a rock climbing instructor who is used to competing with the boys. That confidence paid off when she became only the third woman ever to make it to the top of the warped wall. She made it up on the third attempt.

Brian Arnold holds the record for making it the farthest on last season’s American Ninja Warrior. He quit his job so that he could dedicate himself full-time to training. As of tonight, it has paid off. He made it to the top of the Warped Wall with no problems.

In all, twenty-two competitors completed tonight’s qualifying course. Next week we go back to Venice, CA for the city finals.

American Ninja Warrior airs on NBC Mondays at 9/8c and Tuesdays on the Esquire Network.
