For some time now we have been following rumors of an Apple TV, perhaps called the Apple iPanel, that may be set to launch before the holiday shopping season kicks in this year.

Admittedly, those rumors are stitched together with a thin thread. A bit of speculation here, an analyst report there, reports of various prototypes popping up.

But now we will add a bit more to the quilt. Reuters is reporting that two (un-named, but knowledgably) sources are saying that Apple and Epix are in negotiations with the idea of bringing streaming videos to Apple devices… including perhaps to the Apple TV topbox and the rumored iPanel TV.

Epix is a consortium of three major networks, Viacom/Paramount Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and Lionsgate. We reported earlier this year that there were rumors floating about that Apple had been in touch with various carriers in an attempt to get streaming content.

Epix is currently under contract to provide their streaming content to Netflix, exclusively. But that contract is set to expire this fall – perfect timing if Apple wants to launch a ‘re-imagined’ TV for the holidays.

We’ll be keeping an eye on this and let you know here at CP as develops happen.
