Apple Updates Retina MacBook Pros with Improved Processors

This morning, Apple updated their ‘MacBook Pro with Retina Display’ lineup.

These updates are only minor. The most significant improvement is laptop’s move to a slightly faster ‘Haswell’ Intel processor, which clocks at 200 MHz faster than the previous models, respectively.

Additionally, the entry-level 13-inch model comes with 8GB standard, up from 4GB on the previous model, while the entry-level 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro comes with 16 GB of RAM standard, up from 8 GB.

This update is similar to the one seen with the MacBook Air last April, which featured small speed boosts and a slight reduction in price.

Apple has long been expected to announce even more significant upgrades to the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air lineups, but unfortunately the anticipated ‘Broadwell’ processor has been continuously delayed by Intel in recent months.

Alongside an improved MacBook Pro, Apple is rumored to release an “ultra-thin” MacBook Air, according to several sources, including Tech Times. Currently, the 13-inch MacBook Air, at its thickest point, is only 0.5 cm thinner than the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display.

Due to the delays at Intel, significant MacBook updates are not expected until possibly mid-2015, according to an Intel interview with CNET in June.

Today’s release of updated Retina MacBook Pros makes now a “good” time to buy. However, next year’s updates will likely be very significant, for those awaiting the next-generation processors.
