SpermCheck Fertility is now available in pharmacy stores across the country.
According to the company, the at-home male fertility test can determine, with 98 percent accuracy, whether a man’s sperm count is normal or low, with results available in 10 minutes.
The expansion of the FDA-approved test means it can now be found in the family planning aisle of your local Walgreens, Meijer, Rite Aid and CVS stores. The suggested retail price is $39.99. Target.com has the product listed for $25.99.
“The tests use the same principles and are as simple to perform as a home pregnancy test,” says Ray Lopez, CEO of SpermCheck. “SpermCheckFertility is over 98% accurate, as reliable as a lab test, convenient and much less expensive than a visit to the doctor.”
Infertility is often thought to be a female problem, but the issue affects males and females equally. The American Society for Reproductive Medicine reports that in approximately 40 percent of infertile couples, the male is the main or sole cause of infertility.
SpermCheck Fertility was developed following the discovery of a “patented protein found exclusively in the head of mature sperm.” Researchers found this protein could be used to signify the presence of sperm.
Many shoppers have found the product to be convenient and easy-to-use. The fertility test will give either a positive or negative result. A positive result (two lines) indicates a “normal” sperm range (above 20 million sperm per milliliter), as noted by the World Health Organization.
A negative result (one line) indicates a level below 20 million sperm per milliliter, and possible need for additional testing. If you receive a negative result, you should also speak to your physician about the next step to take.
