Audi A3-Meet The World Car Of The Year

The Audi A3 was voted 2015 World Car Of The Year.

To earn this title, a panel of 69 top tier automotive journalists from 22 countries, chose  the A3 from among 23 rival models.

The third generation of Audi’s premium compact car is available as  a 3 door, Sportback, cabriolet, or sedan.

In the North American market we are limited to a choice of either a 1.8L TFSI, 2.0L TDI or 2.0L TFSI engine.

The base model, with a 1.8L gasoline powered engine producing 170 hp and 199 lb-ft torque, will set you back $31,100 CA, $29,900U.S.

A TDI model will start at $34,900 CA, $32,600 U.S., and features the 2.0L clean diesel that makes 150 hp and 236 lb-ft torque.

For an entry price of $35,900 CA, $32,900 U.S.,you can opt for a 2.0L gasoline engine that puts out 220 hp and258 lb-ft torque.

And for those of us who really need to get where we are going asap, Audi offers up the S3 for $44,000 CA, $41,100 U.S.

This model features a highly tuned version of the 2.0L gas engine and produces a stout 290 hp and 280 lb-ft torque.

Also, the A3 2.0L and S3 have AWD as standard equipment.

All versions of the A3 utilise Audi’s S-tronic dual clutch automatic transmission, which shifts smoothly and rapidly.

Among the standard equipment you will find such niceties as a panoramic sunroof,  heated side mirrors with LED turn signals, heated leather seating, a multi-media interface and a 10 speaker stereo system.

For many, Audi has long been the benchmark for interior design.

The latest A3 proves it being clean, luxuriant and inviting.

The attention to detail, and comfort are second to none.

Case in point just look at the MMI display screen.

Audi has mounted theirs to a mechanism that raises out of the dash when in use. It looks and feels an integral part of the car, and lets be honest, at this level of vehicle we should expect nothing less

This screen is controlled by a rotary dial/push button, located in the center console. It displays radio,  car, and media functions.

The interface is easy to navigate and will no doubt become second nature in time.

Another nice standard feature is the Pre Sense System. This system readies the seat belt pre-tensioners and then monitors the driving situation.

If needed the system will tense the seat belts, close the moonroof and roll up the side windows.

With the numerous options and packages available, it is no puzzle why Audi has a winner on its hands.
