Avengers Scores Big Overseas, Opens In US Theaters Friday

The-AvengersThe new superhero adventure “The Avengers” scored big overseas last weekend, raking in $178.4 million.

The Avengers is the sixth film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero films, and assembles the characters of Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk, and Captain America as a team for a peacekeeping organization called SHIELD (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division).

The movie includes Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark, aka: Iron Man; Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, aka: Captain America; Mark Ruffalo as Dr. Bruce Banner, aka Hulk; Chris Hemsworth as Thor; Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury; Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow; Tom Hiddleston as Loki; Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye; Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill; Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson; Stellan Skarsgard as Erik Selvig; and Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Pots.

The Avengers was released last weekend 39 countries and set opening-day records in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Central American, Bolivia, Taiwan, the Philippines and Hong Kong. It ranked number two in Australia as the highest grossing opening weekend for any film ever, only beaten by Deathly Hallows – Part 2. It had the third highest grossing opening weekend in the UK as well, beaten by Order of the Phoenix and Revenge of the Sith,

When it opens in the US this weekend, some are expecting to go very big, perhaps over $150 million. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 currently holds the number one spot for opening weekends in the US with a gross of $170 million.
