Best Android Apps Of 2012 – Coupon, Kid’s, Photo, TV Apps & More!

Google released a list of what they consider the best Android apps for 2012 on Wednesday.

Several of the apps are well known, while others are geared toward more specialized audiences.

Google has not announced a particular order or criteria to their list of favorite apps. Here is some information about the 12 apps that made the list.

Zappos is a free online shopping app created by Zappos.com that gives shoppers access to wide variety of merchandise, with the added convenience of access from a smartphone or tablet. Two notable features are free shipping and free returns.

Evernote is a free productivity app that focuses on assisting users with organization in all aspects of life. It is intended for everyday use – not just for professionals.

Pinterest’s Android app also made the list. The app brings the fun of “pinning” your favorite pictures to your smartphone or tablet. This app is free to download.

Grimm’s Snow White is an interactive pop-up storybook for kids based on the fairy tale of Snow White. It is currently on sale for $1.99. Grimm’s Snow White has a small amount of downloads compared to the other apps on this list. The app has been downloaded over 5,000 times (as opposed to 500,000 to 5 million downloads for many of the others).

Pocket allows you to save a web page, article, or video to your device. It automatically syncs to your device to allow for offline reading and viewing. It is popular with users that subscribe to paid news sites. The app is available for free.

Expedia’s Android app is also on Google’s list of favorite apps. Expedia Hotels & Flights brings the deals found on Expedia.com to your mobile device.

In addition to the deals normally found through Expedia, there are often special offers for booking hotels and flights through the mobile app.

Ancestry.com has created a mobile app that allows users to research and manage their family trees directly from a smartphone or tablet. Ancestry is free to download, but would be of the most use to people who already subscribe to Ancestry.com.

Another app on Google’s favorite Android apps list is Fancy. Fancy is a combination of a wish list and an online store. Most items that can be found are unique and not found in mainstream stores. This app is free to download.

Mint.com Personal Finance also made the list. Created by Intuit Inc (the creator of Quickbooks), this popular app has won many awards in 2012. It has many features for managing finances and budgeting (some are for tablets only). There is no cost for this app.

SeriesGuide Show Manager is a free app that allows you to track the progress of watching (or re-watching) your favorite TV shows. With the ability to connect to trakt.tv and GetGlue’s social network, you can organize your TV viewing schedule easily.

Relatively new to the app world is Pixlr Express, a photography app that enables you to quickly and easily edit photos. Editing features include removing red-eye and whitening teeth. This app also has a variety of effects, borders, and overlays to choose from – for free.

Last but not least is TED’s official Android app. TED brings over 1200 TEDTalk videos and audio recordings directly to your mobile device. TED features “talks from some of the world’s most fascinating people.” This includes educators, musicians, medical professionals, and more. This app is available for free.
