Best Buy Apologizes For Porn Shown On HDTV Display

Imagine walking by a big screen, 55 inch, HDTV at a Best Buy store, and looking up to see adult porn on one of them.

The porn was on display, apparently two nights in a row, at a Best Buy store in Greenville, South Carolina. On the second night it happened, Gloria Berg was at the Best Buy with her children. A local CBS affiliate quoted the mother as saying “I think even the word ‘pornographic’ doesn’t cover it. I have never watched pornography, so I don’t know what else you can see there, but to me, I really felt extremely violated.”

Berg also said that it took the manager several minutes to get the porn off the screen, and it was seen by several “horrified families.” She said the manager told her it had also happened night before.

Best Buy apologized for the incident, saying in a statement:

“Two individuals accessed our store’s wireless signal to broadcast inappropriate content on a smart television display. In both cases, we worked immediately to disable the inappropriate content. We greatly apologize for this unfortunate incident and we are working to ensure that it does not happen again.”

There are several questions that remain open at this time. From the statement above, one has to wonder how Best Buy knows “two individuals” are involved. Were they caught? Are they (or were they) employees? If not, how did they access the store’s wireless signal?

Berg has filed a complaint with the police concerning the incident.
