According to the Black Ops 2 forum, Black Ops 2 will include the option of installing textures onto the PS3 hard drive.
This will be a move to lessen the burden on the Blu Ray drive, a step to improve the performance of the game.
The game design director David Vonderhaar writes, “When we explained to PS3 folks that installing to the HDD wouldn’t necessarily give us any significant performance gains, they explained back that the issue is they play so much it puts constant stress on the Blu-ray drive and wears them out. You don’t have to install to enjoy the game. We still pre-cache like we did on Black Ops.”
This will come as some relief to avid gamers, as there was a lot of demand regarding this very issue. The Blu Ray drive wears out with sustained use of the drive, this is prevalent when the game is played for a prolonged period of time.
David also specified that the drive space required by the texture installation will be “non-trivial” although no specific size was specified because “anything can, and does change during development.”
Black Ops 2 is all set for November 13, 2012 release for the Xbox-360, PS3, PC and the Wii U.
