Cheap Airline Tickets: Buying On Sunday May Save Money

According to a recent report from Airlines Reporting Corp., despite recent evidence touting Tuesdays at the optimal day for finding deals, Sunday is the day of the week for the best potential value.

The reason is simpler than you might think: Executives back from the weekend want to make their companies money, and raising prices is how they do it.

After looking at prices during a 19-month span, including 130 million domestic and international fares, ticket prices were lowest on Sunday – $432 versus $497 average on Tuesdays.

The report also pointed out the optimal time to make that purchase is roughly 57 days before departure. (Most travelers make reservations about a month beforehand, when prices are already beginning to edge upward.)

It’s also worth pointing out that Tuesday is still the best day for discounts, so consumers should continue to monitor that day for targeted deals.
