Christmas Day Christmas Specials, Movies & Shows On TV

There’s a plethora of Christmas specials, movies and TV shows on today.

Hallmark has cornered the market when it comes to sentimental Christmas movie marathons. At 8am is Debbie Macomber’s Mr. Miracle (which takes its cue from It’s A Wonderful Life), at 9am is One Starry Christmas, followed by Angels and Ornaments at 10:30am, Angels Sing at 12 noon, The Nine Lives of Christmas at 1:30pm, Best Christmas Party Ever at 3pm, A Cookie Cutter Christmas at 4:30pm, Northpole at 6pm, Christmas at Cartrights at 7:30pm, Christmas Under Wraps at 9pm, and Royal Christmas at 10:30pm.

TBS will be showing The Christmas Story (1983), over and over again, all Christmas day, until 8pm, as will TNT.

At 11am Turner Classic Movies is showing the 1938 version of A Christmas Carol, starring Reginald Owen as Scrooge. Then they have Holiday Affair (staring Robert Mitchum and Janet Leigh) at 12:15pm.

The 1951 version of A Christmas Carol will be on FXM at 3pm, 5pm, 7pm, 9pm and 11pm.

History has a lineup that includes a Modern Marvels taking on the setting up of the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center at 8am. At 9am is The Real Story of Christmas – this might not be what you are thinking – it’s about how the more recent traditions of Christmas have come along. At 10am is A Very Shelby Christmas, at 11am is American Restoration taking on the project of a one-horse open sleigh. And afterwards we have a Pawn Star marathon starting with several of their Christmas shows.

TVLand has The Andy Griffith Show episode A Christmas Story  at 10:30am, followed by a number of Beverly Hillbillies’ Christmas episodes.

Lifetime TV will have the now infamous Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever at 8am. At 10am is Christmas Angel, followed by A Christmas Proposal at 12 noon, The Road to Christmas at 2pm, Comfort and Joy at 4pm, All She Wants For Christmas at 6pm, Holiday Switch at 8pm, and The Santa Con at 10pm.

FXX will be showing A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas all day long until 8pm, when they head into a Simpson’s Christmas show marathon.

PBS has a number of kids Christmas shows scheduled, including the Curious George episode A Very Monkey Christmas at 8am. Of particular interest to adults may be the 1pm airing of Silent Night, an operatic retelling of the WWI Christmas Eve truce. (PBS times/shows do vary by location).

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is on ABCFam at 8pm.

The 12 Dogs of Christmas will be on CW at 8pm.

Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000 version) is on ABC at 8:30pm.

Of course, if you are a Doctor Who fan, chances are you’ve already seen my post about the Doctor Who marathon and Christmas special.
