Two winners were announced on the final episode of the first season of “The Glee Project” on the Oxygen network, instead of just one winner. Samuel Larsen was the main winner, but Damian McGinty, being the fan favorite, was the surprise co-winner and will be taking part in a seven-episode arc in the next season of the hit TV series “Glee.” The two runners-up, Alex Newell and Lindsay Pearce, were promised a two-episode spotlight.
Irish co-winner McGinty hails from Derry, Ireland, is 19-years-old, and has been singing his entire life. McGinty won his first singing competition at age 6, and has been in the Irish singing group “Celtic Thunder” since age 14. McGinty also had a cameo appearance in the “Glee 3D” movie.
On Saturday (August 21), McGinty announced on a live viewing party of “The Glee Project” that he would unfortunately be stepping down from his position in “Celtic Thunder” due to his new role on “Glee.”
