DC’s Lucifer Finds a Home at Fox

DC’s domination of the small screen continues today with Deadline reporting FOX has ordered a pilot for the popular Vertigo title Lucifer.

Californication’s Tom Kapinos has been tapped to write and produce.

First appearing in Neil Gaiman’s epic supernatural fantasy series Sandman (being developed as a film over at WB), the character’s popularity would eventually land him his own series written by Mike Carey.

Launched in 2000, the series ran till 2006 with a total of 75 issues. Gaiman based his iteration of the character on John Milton’s interpretation of the character in Paradise Lost.

Lucifer will see the fallen angel give up his rule over Hell to open a piano bar in Los Angeles.  His “peaceful” retirement comes to a grinding halt, when a simple mission for Heaven sparks the beginnings of a new revolution.

Lucifer will be joining the ever-growing slate of DC properties on the small screen, which includes upcoming series The Flash (CW), Gotham (FOX), iZombie (CW) and Constantine (NBC), as well as the third season of Arrow (CW) and the newly announced Preacher, Supergirl and Titans (TeenTitans).
