Destiny: Over-hyped?

Destiny, arguably the most anticipated game of the year, hit stores September 9th, 2014, for X-box One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

Now, after roughly three weeks of playing, I feel I have enough experience to write a solid review for it.

As a long time MMORPG and first person shooter fan boy I was skeptical. Even after downloading the open beta, I was not sure if it was worth the full price. But I took a chance and it paid off.

This is a MMORPG that does not feel like a MMORPG. A shooter that does not feel like a shooter. I hesitate to consider this a game, it’s an experience.

At this point I’ve completed all the raid content, played lots of PvP, leveled each class to maximum and geared them easily. I even started my own clan, the Destiny equivalent of guilds.

The leveling content is not too fast but also doesn’t drag on like traditional MMOs. The plot is enigmatic and sparks my curiosity. PvP is more balanced in the first month of release than WoW has been in ten years.

I’ve spent a shameful amount of time raiding competitively over my lifetime and wasn’t sure how they would take a shooting combat system and build raids around it. The raids are challenging, but not impossible, and more importantly interesting.

Is Destiny over-hyped?

No, I don’t believe it is, especially on the PlayStation 4 where there aren’t many games yet.

But what do you think? Has your experience been different?
