Diablo III Gets A New 2012 Release Date

Blizzard Entertainment has changed the planned release date for it’s highly anticipated game, Diablo 3. The action role-playing game, which recently entered a closed beta, will now be released in early 2012.

Blizzard has yet to indicate when Diablo 3 would ship, but the company has said that it will use “”the additional time” to extend the Diablo III beta test, which will “potentially [add] more testers than initially projected.”

“With every game we make, the temptation is always very strong to launch as soon as possible,” stated Mike Morhaime, CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment, in a recent statement. “However, we didn’t put so many years of work into Diablo III to release a game that was almost ready.” Morhaime also added that “The beta test is going very well, and we look forward to making the most of the extra time we’re taking to deliver an experience that lives up to our vision for the game and the expectations of our players. Next year is going to be an incredibly busy one for Blizzard, and we hope an incredibly fun one for Blizzard gamers.”

In Diablo 3’s closed beta test, those participating are be able to fight their way through a section of Act I, as any of the five hero classes — witch doctor, monk, wizard, barbarian, and demon hunter — and fight against the Skeleton King, either alone or cooperatively with other players.

It has been over two years since the original announcement of Diablo 3. The game prior to the newest installation, Diablo 2, made its debut in 2001. The gaming company has not yet hinted at a release date for Diablo 3, and has only stated that it will be released next year.
