Dispatch To Play Madison Square Garden In July

Dispatch is playing just one North American show in 2015, returning to New York’s Madison Square Garden on July 11. The John Butler Trio will join as a special guest.

Dispatch’s newsletter subscribers, Chase cardholders, and those who have signed up for the band’s Facebook Dispatch: Hunger Event at least 24 hours ahead will get first pick at tickets at noon Eastern Jan. 16. Regular sales start at noon Eastern Jan. 23 on Ticketmaster.

Dispatch is using the concert to bring awareness and volunteers to the problem of hunger in the United States, along with partners No Kid Hungry, Why Hunger, and the New York City Coalition Against Hunger.

The band will have an online Hunger Action and Advocacy Challenge prior to the show, and the band members will participate in volunteer opportunities the weekend of July 10.

The band, which earned fame in the late 1990s via Napster, has a long history of charity work.

They have held three sold-out concerts at Madison Square Garden — three nights in a row in 2007 to benefit charities in Zimbabwe.

Eight years later, they’ve put the focus on hunger.

“So, why Hunger, you ask?” the band’s Facebook page says, “1 in 6 Americans (46.2 million people) struggle to put food on their table and 1 in 5 American children don’t have enough to eat. Hunger in America is an unfortunate reality that we need to do something about. However, we can’t do it without your help. That’s why we’ll be setting up regional volunteer opportunities, service projects, and other opportunities to come together between now and July 11th to make a difference.”

Dispatch also founded the nonprofit Amplifying Education, which mobilizes volunteers to improve schools, collects books for schools at concerts, and has raised money for education organizations City Year Denver, Teach for America and The Waterside School.
