Donkey Kong Country Freeze Was Released on Feb. 21
Nintendo has released its next big platforming title for the Wii U, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.
The game marks the first big release for the Wii U since Super Mario 3D World, which was released this past November.
So far, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze has gotten mostly positive reviews, but not quite what Nintendo was hoping for.
As of now, the game has an 81 score on Metacritic. This is a very favorable score, but doesn’t come close to Nintendo’s past few Wii U releases like Super Mario 3D World (93), The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (90) and Pikmin 3 (87).
The Wii U has been struggling to gain sales for about a year now, so they were likely hoping for some better scores to help move systems off store shelves.
Nevertheless, the game is gathering some great reviews and should provide plenty of fun to gamers.
Similar to the last Donkey Kong Country game, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Donkey Kong is aided by a second character in his quest.
In this game, however, Cranky Kong and Dixie Kong are added as playable characters. In Donkey Kong Country Returns, only Diddy Kong was available.
Each of the three co-characters has a special ability to help Donkey Kong on his journey. Use Cranky Kong’s cane bounce to avoid dangerous spikes, or Dixie’s helicopter move to reach higher places. Each side character makes the gameplay more unique.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is available in stores now for $49.99. For a look at the launch trailer, click here.
