Popular Dr. Seuss books are on sale today in honor of “Read across America” day.

The National Education Association celebrates ‘Read across America Day’ on today, March 2, 2011. Events are in honor of the birthday of a children’s literary icon. According to the NEA website, “NEA’s Read across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss.”

Many children publishers and retailers such as First Book, a nonprofit organization that provides easy reading children’s books, have been discounting literature of every genre for the cause. The NEA supported First Book is currently offering discounts on popular Dr. Seuss titles such as; Green Eggs and Ham and The Cat in the Hat for only $3.00 a book. Books are available for purchase off of the Seuss catalog on the NEA website as well as First Book and Scholastic resources in elementary schools.

During Theodor Seuss Geisel’s life he had published 44 children’s books. He brings to life imaginative characters, rhymes, and many of his best selling work had been later produced into movies such as; The Grinch Stole Christmas and Horton Hears a Who! His influence in Children’s literature prompted the adoption of his birthday to become the annual date of the National Read Across America day.
