Dragon Age Inquisition: In Depth Preview

The news continues to pour in about Dragon Age Inquisition, set to release across all platforms November 18th.

The release is timed with the holiday season in mind. Several preorder bonuses will be available, including a unicorn mount, item packs and armor.

Developers at Bioware boast about “billions” of different character creation possibilities. There were hundreds in Dragon Age Origins, elf, dwarf, or human accompanied by dozens of physical and verbal combinations.

That vanished in Dragon Age II and the majority of fans were upset.

In Inquisition, the original three races return with an additional fourth: the Qunari. The Qunari are a race/religion whose origins, purpose, culture and society are shrouded in mystery. Will we finally be able to learn more about them?

The game is estimated to take between 150 to 200 hours to complete. A chunk of time much greater than any other open-world role playing game (RPG) that I can think of. Even The critically acclaimed Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim with downloadable later content (DLC) took me approximately seventy hours.

This may be the largest game ever made if everything they claim is true, and traditionally Bioware does not normally exaggerate.

Old friends return in Inquisition to aid the player. Some of the same voices are back, including Kate Mulgrew, Claudia Black, Brian Bloom, Steven Valentine and, my personal favorite, Corrine Kempa. Exactly what roles they will play and how important they will be is unknown.

Because of the size and substance of the game, the innovative new combat systems, and the file imports from Origins and Dragon Age II, Inquisition is my pick for 2014.
