Elizabeth Edwards Dies At 61 With John Edwards By Her Side

Tuesday, December 7th 2010 Elizabeth Edwards succumbed to cancer with John Edwards by her side.  She died in her home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  Accompanying her estranged husband by her bedside was their 3 children and close friends,  according to the family.

“Today we have lost the comfort of Elizabeth’s presence but, she remains the heart of this family,” the family said in a statement. “We love her and will never know anyone more inspiring or full of life. On behalf of Elizabeth we want to express our gratitude to the thousands of kindred spirits who moved and inspired her along the way. Your support and prayers touched our entire family.”

Elizabeth had first been diagnosed with breast cancer near the end of her husband’s bid for vice-president, 6 years ago.

During John Edward’s 2nd attempt for the White House in 2007, Elizabeth encouraged her husband to continue the campaign, even after she learned that the cancer had spread.  Edwards lost the nomination to Barack Obama.

Elizabeth and John had separated in January after Edwards admitted to fathering a child with a campaign videographer. It is reported that John had recently moved back home to help care for her in her final days.
