Elizabeth Edwards Ends Cancer Fight: “I am Grateful,” She Says

Elizabeth Edwards has stopped her cancer treatment, according to a statement made by the Edwards family.  Her doctors have advised her that further treatment would not be productive.  According to the Edwards family, Elizabeth is home with her friends and family beginning the process of saying goodbye.

The sixty-one year old wife of former senator and vice-presidential candidate John Edwards, has been battling breast cancer since 2004 which eventually spread throughout her body.  Edwards was diagnosed during the end of her husband’s vice-presidential campaign.

John Edwards is said to be at Elizabeth’s side at her home in Chapel Hills, North Carolina, according to a family friend.  Also there with her are their three children, her brother, sister, nieces, nephews and other close family members.

John Edwards had a much publicized extra-marital affair with a filmmaker hired to film his presidential campaign.  The affair produced a daughter, which Edwards initially denied until January 2010.

After the family released the statement of Elizabeth Edwards stopping all cancer treatment, she posted on Facebook, saying “I have found that in the simple act of living with hope, and in the daily effort to have a positive impact in the world,  the days I do have are made all the more meaningful and precious. And for that I am grateful.”
