EPL Transfers: Phil Jones Could Be Signed On By Manchester United

According to a popular soccer website, the Blackburn Rovers defender Phil Jones could be in line to join Manchester United for the next season. According to the report, this could be a £16 million transfer that will see Jones playing for the defending champions Manchester United.

The contract could be a five-year long one with Manchester United after it had once seemed that Jones was going to join Liverpool. However, the latest buzz has suggested that he is having his medical tests done at Old Trafford.

Jones has played for the English under-21 international side and after he was approached by Liverpool, the Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson seemed to have approached him as well.

It will obviously be difficult to get as much playing time for Manchester United as he could have done for Liverpool, given that there will be others like Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans who will already be competing for the spots in the defensive set-up.

Jones had played for Blackburn Rovers last season and featured in 26 games. The Rovers, who were bought over by the Venky’s, ended in the 15th spot in the EPL last season.
