In a story so crazy that it has to be true, the filming of the NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton was interrupted last week by real life gun violence on the streets of Compton.

According to TMZ, the film was shooting on location at the Compton Courthouse when shots were fired from a car driving by the courthouse, reportedly in retaliation to a few local residents flashing gang signs at the vehicle.

No one affiliated with the production of the movie was involved in the shooting.  One person was injured in the shooting, but was rushed to the hospital and survived.  Police are investigating the shooting, and haven’t officially labeled it gang related.

According to reports, everyone working on the production of the movie has been shaken up, especially with filming scheduled to continue in Compton for the foreseeable future.  However, production has not been delayed in any significant way.

Of course, one can’t look past the irony that a movie about a rap group that gained notoriety for glorifying gang violence was caught in the middle of what is likely to be real life gang violence.  You just can’t make up something like that.

Despite the incident, Straight Outta Compton will hit theaters August 14, 2015.
