Food Lion has launched a sweepstakes with the top prize being free groceries for a year. The sweepstakes promotion runs from now until April 19.

Food Lion MPV card holders can enter by scanning their card into a kiosk that will be available at the front of most Food Lion stores, according to their site. The kiosk will then enter the customer into a drawing on April 26, 2011, for the free groceries. Food Lion customers may also instantly win mini-prizes that may include free national or private brand items.

The ‘free groceries for a year’ is actually $5,200 in Food Lion gift cards, plus a check for $1,750, which Food Lion says is intended to be used to pay taxes associated with receiving the prize.

The MVP card is Food Lions’ discount card. The cards are available to consumers, for free, through local Food Lion stores or at Food Lions’ website: According to their site, the amount each individual shopper saves using the MVP card can be tracked through the website. So far this year, Food Lion says that MPV card holders have saved a total of $346,346,931.34 this year by using the card.

Food Lion customers wanting to enter the sweepstakes must be 18 years of age or older and must be a legal resident of Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, or Virginia. Other restrictions and details are available through Food Lions website.
