Former President Jimmy Carter Remains In Hospital

Former President Jimmy Carter was admitted to the hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, after complaining of a sick stomach and cramps during a flight from Atlanta, GA, to Cleveland, OH, Tuesday.

While it was originally planned that he would stay in the hospital for one night for observation, the hospital has announced that President Carter will be staying another night.

Officials at the hospital have said that the former President is in good spirits and is an active participant in all of his healthcare decisions.

A joint statement from MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio and the Carter Center, said “Former President Jimmy Carter is continuing to recover from the stomach distress that was reported earlier.” It included that doctors “determined that the likely cause was a viral infection that is now clearing up.”

President Carter and his wife, former First Lady Rosalyn Carter, have been touring the U.S. to promote and sign copies of his new book, “White House Diary”. Appearances scheduled for today in Washington were cancelled.

Carter was recently in North Korea where he helped secure the freedom of Aijalon Mahli Gomes, a U.S. citizen who was accused of crossing the North Korean border illegally.
