“Free Shipping Day” Today – 2500+ Online Stores Participating

Today, Friday, December 16, is a day in which thousands of online retailers will be providing free shipping for delivery by Christmas day.

Participating retailers include Toys “R” Us, HP, Land’s End, Nordstrom, Coles, Barnes & Noble, Sears, Oriental trading, Godiva, sales, Kmart, Bass Pro Shoppes, and many more, both large and small.

According to stats provided by FreeShippingDay.com, as of early Friday morning, 2564 retailers have signed up. To sign up, online retailers must agree to offer free shipping on their products, with delivery by Christmas. They are allowed to set certain restrictions.

Free Shipping Day began at 12 midnight this morning and continues until 12 AM December 17.

While many of us are just now hearing of Free Shipping Day, it has been popular for number of years. Free Shipping Day was the third largest day for sales last year, beaten only by Cyber Monday and Green Monday. According to ComScore, last year it accounted for $942 million in sales. Considering the growth of this year’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales numbers, Free Shipping Day may do well over $1 billion in sales this year.
