The number one soundtrack on the Billboard 100 is getting the format it belongs on: cassette tape. “Guardians of the Galaxy” director James Gunn announced yesterday that the soundtrack will be released on the archaic format on November 17th.
The album is the first to reach the top of the charts with no original music. Tracks include hits from the ’70s like “Hooked on a Feeling” by Blue Swede, “I Want You Back” by The Jackson 5, and “Come and Get Your Love” by Redbone. A deluxe edition is also available which includes the movie’s instrumental score.
Release of the cassette will mark the fourth medium, which also includes digital markets, CD and vinyl. The album sold over 426,000 copies as of September.
The movie itself was number one in the US for numerous weeks, beating out several other releases during it’s peak run. Out in some of the Asia market now, the film has garnered almost $700 million worldwide.
