Has Nissan Developed A Self Cleaning Car?

For those of us who live in the more northern areas of the globe, winter offers many driving challenges.

One of my personal peeves is the endless wait at the carwash on any day with a temperature above freezing.

I understand that everyone wants to rid their vehicles of road salt and dried road spray.

However, the thought of the lines, the waiting and the occasional argument over who goes next all leaves me with a dirty car, as I drive home instead of washing my it.

I am sure I am not the only person who is frustrated by this seemingly mundane chore.

Clearly someone at Nissan thinks like me.

They are in the process of developing a self cleaning car.

What sort of wizardry is this you ask?

Will it drive itself to the wash?

Not exactly.

Nissan has taken a nano-paint technology sold by Ultra Tech International Inc. , which repels water and oil, and applied it to a Nissan Note.

This technology known as ‘Ultra-Ever Dry’, creates a protective layer of air between the paint and the air around the car.

In effect it stops standing water and road spray from creating dirty marks on the car’s surface.

Nissan’s testing up to now has shown the product responds well to common rain, spray, frost, sleet and standing water.

The down side is there are no plans to use this coating as a standard option.

Instead Nissan is considering offering it in the future  as an aftermarket option.

This technology cannot get here soon enough, my car is filthy!
