Boardwalk Empire

Boardwalk Empire will end after its fifth season airs this fall on HBO.

At a press event held this week, HBO announced that it will be renewing the Lena Dunham comedy Girls for a fourth season.

The next season of Boardwalk Empire, however, will be its last.

In a statement made this week by Boardwalk Empire creator Terry Winter, the network confirmed the show’s conclusion.

“We’re thrilled to get the go-ahead for a fifth season of Boardwalk Empire. After much discussion with my creative team and HBO, we’ve decided to wrap up the series after such a great run and look forward to bringing it to a powerful and exciting conclusion.”

Boardwalk Empire stars Steve Buscemi as a politician who controlled Atlantic City, New Jersey during the Prohibition era of the 1920s and 30s.

Over the years, Boardwalk Empire has received widespread critical acclaim.

The show remains one of HBO’s most watched programs, ranking only behind Game of Thrones and True Blood.

The third season of Girls will premiere this Sunday, January 12 at 10PM ET.

The final season Boardwalk Empire will debut sometime in the fall.

HBO has also announced a season four premiere date for Game of Thrones. The epic fantasy drama is scheduled to return Sunday, April 6 AT 9PM ET.
