Hideo Kojima Reveals More On Metal Gear Solid V

Hideo Kojima has revealed more about the gameplay of the new Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain in a recent interview.

Kojima has revealed that the game’s story will begin immediately after the events of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.  The game will commence with a playable prologue.  This prologue will apparently act as a tutorial and follow a series of events which will result in Snake entering a nine year coma.

It has also been confirmed that the main portion of the game will take place post-coma.  This section of the game will follow Snake, as he gathers a new army after losing everything he gained in Peace Walker.

Kojima has refused to comment further on the themes and story of the new Metal Gear Solid.

However, Kojima has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid V will be a “huge, gigantic open world” game.  Kojima promises to deliver a “new type of Metal Gear game”, bringing an all new gameplay experience.

Despite all the changes, the game will still keep true to the sneaking and infiltration roots of the franchise.  Kojima stressed that the open world format would actually increase level of strategy required for players to successfully remain undetected.

Players will have to consider the game’s real time 24-hour clock, and choose the most appropriate time to depart for each mission.  For example, the player will have trouble seeing at night without the aid of headlights or a torch.  This will lead to a trade-off, as guards will spot the player easily when they are holding a lit torch.

Another consideration will be the player’s choice in transport.  Snake will have to get around somehow, and the guards will presumably be aware of headlights, tire tracks, and the noise a vehicle may produce.

No release date has been specified for Metal Gear Solid V as of yet.  Mr Kojima tells us that the new game is “not quite ready yet… [and it will take] a little longer”.

Metal Gear Solid V will be released on the Xbox 360 and the PS3.  There is no word whether the game will be released on next gen consoles as of yet.
