HTC Rapid Charger 2.0 – Charge HTC Smartphones 40% Faster

HTC recently announced their implementation of Qualcomms Quick Charge 2.0 technology, the Rapid Charger 2.0. The charger allows certain HTC smartphones to be charged 40% faster than with standard chargers.

The Rapid Charger will be compatible with the HTC Desire Eye, ONE M8, ONE E8, ONE Remix, and ONE M8 Harmam Kardon edition.

The increased charging speed can restore 60% to a 3300mAh battery in about 30 minutes.

This seems like a lot, but Motorola is boasting 8 hours of battery life after 15 minutes of charging with the same Qualcomm technology, which makes HTC’s projections look a little unimpressive.

The product is as of yet unavailable for purchase, with the first batch for the US still in transit from Taiwan.

Pricing is also unavailable, but Motorola’s version of the charging technology, the Turbo Charger, is already available for purchase for $34.99, so hopefully we will see a price point around that or lower.

The charger will be backwards compatible with earlier HTC devices that have Qualcomm Quick Charge 1.0, but only at the slower 1.0 charging speed.

What do you think, will you be taking advantage of this new technology? Or does faster charging not present much of a benefit to you?
