Independence Day 2 Has A New Screen Writer

Independence Day 2 is on its way to becoming a reality, and it has a new screenwriter to help get it there.

Roland Emmerich wrote the movie’s initial draft alongside Dean Devlin and James Vanderbilt, and now Fox has brought in Carter Blanchard to finish the script for Independence Day 2.

At this time, it’s unclear if Blanchard will simply be updating the script produced by Emmerich and company, or if he’ll be starting from scratch.

One thing we know for sure is that the script won’t contain any dialogue or action from Captain Steven Hiller, as Will Smith has announced that he won’t be reprising his role from the original Independence Day, much to the dismay of fans who eagerly await the sequel.

It’s also unclear if any of the other actors from the first movie, like Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum, will be back for round two. Of course, if they’re not, it could give Blanchard some freedom to take the sequel in a whole new direction.

Like the first one, Emmerich is lined up to direct Independence Day 2. Just in case you haven’t heard, it’s scheduled release day is July 1, 2016.
