At a special media event yesterday, Apple announced that iOS 8 will be available to the public as a free download beginning September 17th.
iOS 8 is the latest major mobile operating system update from Apple. It maintains the same “flat” aesthetic introduced in iOS 7. However, the update with include many new features, including a time-lapse camera mode, a new ‘Quick-Type’ keyboard, Wi-Fi calling (iPhone only), enhanced voice recognition with Siri, and much, much more.
September 17th is just two days before the official release of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, Apple’s latest iPhone updates. Both models with ship with iOS 8.
iOS 8 will be compatible with the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, and iPod Touch (5th generation), as well as with the iPad 2, iPad with Retina Display, iPad Air, iPad Mini, and iPad Mini with Retina Display.
The new iOS can be downloaded via iTunes, or directly onto devices via the ‘settings’ menu in iOS 7.
