Jared Leto Bails on Brilliance, Just Like Will Smith

It looks like we’ll have to wait a little bit longer to find out what role Jared Leto will take as his follow up to his Oscar winning performance in Dallas Buyers Club, assuming he takes another acting job at all.  Reports indicate that Leto has jumped ship on the sci-fi thriller Brilliance, after being in talks to take over the lead role.

Of course, before Leto was in talks to play the lead role of Nick Cooper, opposite Noomi Rapace, Will Smith had signed on for the part before leaving to do another project, so Leto isn’t the first actor to turn down the lead in Brilliance.

Leto reportedly met with the movie’s director, Julius Onah, last week before deciding that he didn’t want to be involved with the film, which was written by David Koepp, based on the novel by Marcus Sakey.

Leto has always been picky about the parts he takes, so it should be a shock to no one that he walked away from Brilliance.  There are also rumors that Leto could be up to play the lead in Marvel’s upcoming Doctor Strange movie, so a potential scheduling conflict may have been the reason he chose not to sign on with Brilliance.

Of course, there’s nothing official, so we will have to continue to wait for Leto’s Oscar follow up.

What do you think of Leto saying no to Brilliance?  Should he have taken the role?  Let us know below.
