Jared Leto Could Replace Will Smith In Brilliance

The world is waiting to see which role Jared Leto will pick to be his follow up to his Oscar winning performance in Dallas Buyers Club.  Considering Leto’s history of pickiness when it comes to selecting roles, it could be a while, although there’s a chance we won’t have to wait too much longer.

Variety is reporting that Leto has been offered the lead in Legendary’s sci-fi thriller Brilliance.  The role was previously given to Will Smith, who was forced to drop out so he could star Ridley Scott’s upcoming project about concussions in the NFL.

Nothing is set in stone, as talks are in the early stages, but it’s certainly possible that this could become Leto’s follow up to his Oscar winning role.

Brilliance is based on a novel of the same name by Marcus Sakey.  The novel is the first in a trilogy, with the second book expected to be released later this year, so this role could potentially make Leto the face of a movie franchise.

David Koepp has been hired to write the screenplay for Brilliance, while Julius Onah is set to direct.  Smith may have dropped out for the lead role of Nick Cooper, but Noomi Rapace is still on board to co-star with whoever ends up replacing him, which means it could be Leto and Rapace headlining Brilliance.
